These pieces were done as a series during the Covid 19 epidemic. I have always been attracted to images of the Sun both real and imagined as they represent the power of light and how important it is to us. During the past year I was very impressed with the need to think stress-free thoughts and work with uplifting images. I did a number of other sun images as well.

Maureen Hubbard Cribbs is a painter, printmaker, teacher. Much of her work is the response of direct observation of familiar objects and nature. Personal philosophical thoughts are beneath it all. She uses varied media to create visual variety. This incorporates a personal sense of color and space during the silent moments of transience, thus reflecting “my life, my days."

Using nature as the primary focus in my work, I strive to create a nostalgic mood. I work in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. I often use more than one of these media in the same piece. I start with a photograph of somewhere I have been that inspires me. Starting with the image, I then take it to a less realistic place, to create more of a feeling than a rendering. It is my intention to show great emotion and affection for moments in time by creating a dreamlike quality. I try to capture something in each subject that shows what the child inside us sees or feels.

Creating art is pure joy! Nature around me is enough inspiration to last a lifetime. I love living in the Midwest, with its rich seasons and varied palette. My goal is to capture light, intense color and an interesting composition. The creative process brings balance to my life and allows me to express myself. To paint the world around me... that is a wonderful gift!

Before I was able to talk, I drew; having color, line, and composition speak for me. In my adulthood this truth still holds true. These art works show an up close personal view of individualism represented by our changing times. How nature, both the structure of the old and new compliment each other. The harmony of light and color shown together, not divided when balanced illustrates our beauty.
